6D.ai is one of the first companies that focus on bringing AR Cloud technology to developers. AR Cloud is an essential technology that can take AR applications a huge step forward.
The core purpose is for users to use 6D.ai AR Cloud SDK within their apps to enjoy some of its main benefits, including persistent of assets within the AR app, occlusion (virtual objects can be hidden behind real-world physical objects), easier implementation of multiplayer apps and games and outdoor large-scale support.
For this to happen, 6D needs to map the world, creating a 3D mesh of it where AR apps can integrate with. 6D will benefit from each user who uses a developer’s app that integrated 6D SDK. As the user uses the app, the app will scan and map behind the scenes and that data will be added to the AR cloud.
This means that 6D.ai will continue to receive data that maps the world in 3D, including every object in it. Of course, objects change over time, and this means that the data will need to stay up-to-date as users use 6D.ai powered apps.
This technology will help supercharge AR and help deliver more compelling and useful experiences. I’ve read on techcrunch.com that the device will cache some of the data, like around 100 meters walking distance in-memory (RAM), whether a much larger city-block-size can be stored on the internal storage.
What’s more important is that you can signup for the 6D.ai beta right now through the official website here, and be among the first to try it out.
Here are some interesting videos demonstrating how the technology works.
I hope you find this information useful, good luck and have fun building great AR apps!
