CatchMe AR – Game Review (iOS)

CatchMe AR presents itself well and when I downloaded I thought to myself that I am going to have fun this morning, I was wrong.

What is CatchMe AR?

CatchMe AR is a first-person shooter that tests your reaction time and precision skills. Once you start the game, balls will fly off a circular area. You need to take the balls down fast before they land on the floor.

The player also has two abilities to help him out, including a timer ability that slowdowns time and a bomb that clears all bomb that clears all balls visible on the screen. You can buy those power-ups from the store using coins which you achieve during the game or you can buy coins from the store using microtransactions, but for some reasons, when I tap the coins button it doesn’t work.

Gameplay

CatchMe AR falls into the category of games which are very easy to pick up but insanely hard to master, like Squishy Hoops, AR Flappy, Fit In, AR Robot Runner and many others.

I have no problem with the game being hard, but if it is built in a way that it is entertaining and allow more fluid gameplay. Many of those games are designed deliberately like that to be very addicting and encourage players to put endless amount of time to try to last more than a few seconds. They are very competitive in nature and usually come with a global leaderboard.

CatchMe AR isn’t better than all those other game, maybe worse.  It requires more finger smashing to quickly release many shots in order to make sure the ball is hit and not missed.  After a few seconds of gameplay, you find yourself really needing those bombs or slow-mo power-ups because you’ll need to handle like 4 or 5 balls flying up in the air at the same time.

It’s just a feeble-minded shooter that fails to excite. I obviously can’t see myself spending hours on it to become better. Even the presentation was poor and didn’t made want to stay more than the few minutes that I played with it.

Conclusion

CatchMe AR has a catchy name but underneath lies a monotonous and uninteresting shooter. If you are among those who love those very simple and very challenging Flappy Bird type of games, you might like it, I didn’t. I wish there was more interesting stuff to write about this game, but there isn’t.

The gameplay was boring and unexciting, the sound effects were terrible, the balls look plane, same goes for the visual effects and the entire game presentation. I didn’t even find a global leaderboard. Bottom line, you can safely skip it, you won’t miss anything exciting.

You can download CatchMe AR free from the App Store here.
