You know, with all the great ARKit games that I’ve played, there is one genre that is missing, and this I am referring to outdoor exploration games. A game like Pokemon Go that will make encourage you to go out of the house, explore the outdoors environment and socialize with other people who play the same game.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still many games that you can play outdoors and have fun with, but I haven’t come across and ARKit game that motivates you to explore the outdoor environment or one that is aimed for PvP using two or more ARKit mobile devices.
There is a huge empty space for creativity and innovation here. As for the time being, I am not really encouraged to play a game outdoors, unless this is a requirement to play the game in a large place. I have very little space in my home so not every ARKit game is comfortable and I need to go out to be able to enjoy playing it.
It’s kind of funny. It reminds me the reaction of people when I went down to play the game ARZombi. People have their faces like “What is wrong with this guy?”. Well, I can go and tell everyone that I am just playing an augmented reality game. I think that after Pokemon Go people should be used to people moving around with their mobile devices and pointing it to different locations.
I’ve heard that Pokémon Go will get ARKit support very soon. I really want to try this out. I only have my iPad, and the game requires an Internet connection, but I can create a hotspot using my iPhone 5S and play.
If an ARKit game comes that promotes outdoor exploration and social interaction I’ll be playing it on day one. I’m pretty sure a few big titles are just still in development and it won’t take too long until we get to hear about a big ARKit title that was inspired by a game like Pokemon Go.
