Stack AR was the first ARKit game to top the App Store free-to-play charts (source: venturebeat.com). I’ve already reviewed Stack AR. It’s a fun and very challenging game although nothing the will get me excited about the AR technology.
That being said, there are some alternatives out there, those who seems to want to follow this game’s success. Who knows, maybe there were there before Stack AR, but Stack AR was the first to become very popular, and there are many good reasons why.
Today I’ve downloaded to games which are very similar to Stack AR: the first on is called Augy Tower and the second is Build Up Stack.
Augy Tower is the most fun among the two I guess. The blocks in this game are made of still and you have the option to pay to unlock different types of materials (who will want to do that?). The game is faster than Stack AR, thus probably more challenging. You probably won’t be able to stack as much blocks as you did in AR. It also show you the best height you were able to achieve.
You also have a local and global (friends) and a global leaderboard. The highest that a player was able to get is 33 as of the time of writing.
Build Up Stack is the most unattractive among the two but it does have a regular non-AR mode like Stack AR. It does play more like Stack AR but with only a single blue color skin, no high-score, no nothing, just go start over and try again.
I really don’t understand the developer, you already spent time making the game, why not just invest a bit more time to make it more appealing. It’s not that Stack AR is a paid app. Maybe make a unique theme that will make it stand out from the rest but leaving it like that?!
Bottom line, stay with Stack AR.
