AR Dominoes

AR Dominoes – Game Review (iOS/ARKit)

AR Dominoes is the second Dominoes game I review here on AR Critic.  You won’t find any unique props to position like in Domino World AR. However, AR Dominoes allows you to quickly create a very long line of domino pieces. AR Dominoes can do that as well and offer more precise controls to do so as well.

It’s a sandbox game, where the player can connect custom lines of dominoes in different colors, shapes, and orientation and watch the pieces collapse one after the other. The rainbow color effect makes the dominoes look really nice and it’s beautiful watching all those dominoes topple down with all those vibrant colors.

To start toppling them down all you have to do is press the play button. You can also choose the speed of the animation and even control it as the toppled animation takes place. Once the animation reaches the last domino piece, you can reconstruct the formation back into place with a single click and the game does that beautifully by lifting each domino from the last one to the first in reverse order. Users can also save their creations and load them again later.

The lack of props makes the game less exciting to play than Domino World AR. However, I found it very easy to create complex domino formation in a few seconds. I could easily fill up the entire living room with domino pieces in a few minutes, it’s that easy. After playing around with apps like Playground AR, I found myself getting less excited about AR Domino apps because there I can play with physics, explode things and do other crazy stuff. However, if you are specifically into creating custom domino formation and watch the pieces topple down in Augmented Reality, this is definitely the app for you.

Conclusion

AR Dominoes is a fun dominoes Augmented Reality (AR) game for all ages. One of the things that made him attractive is the ability to quickly create beautiful colorful domino structures. You are limited to placing them on the surface, and there is no way to stack them one on top of the other (a feature I would like to see in the future).

This app lacks props and therefore it becomes less exciting to both play and watch. I would personally wouldn’t bother recording a session of watching the domino pieces topple down in this game, but in Domino World AR I did it because the animation was more pleasing visually.

This ARKit app is free in the App Store so you have nothing to lose, just gain. It’s a fun app for kids and a good introductory app to Augmented Reality. I’m sure there will quite a few people who will build some crazy things with it. I really want to see a video of someone knocking down a very long domino structure outdoors. Who knows, if I have free time I might try it out myself. Anyways, a nice ARKit app, so you might want to give it a try if you are into Dominoes sandbox games.
