Guns of Boom augmented reality spectator mode

Gun of Boom AR Spectator Mode Released

Every day I found out so many interesting stuff related to AR, but I have to admit that this one really took me by surprise. I’m talking about the new Augmented Reality (AR) spectator mode for the mobile FPS game Gun of Boom.

Guns of Boom is an immensely popular mobile multiplayer FPS shooter, probably the best one for iOS.  On October 11th, the developer Game Insight has released a new update version 2.6.1. In this update, the company has released a new augmented reality (AR) spectator mode.

Check this out!

In this mode, I was able to become a spectator of a random match between two teams. I first deployed the map on a surface. The app detected the surface very quickly using Apple’s ARKit technology. A second later I was already seeing teams fighting against each other.

I could enlarge the size of the level using pinch touch gesture., I couldn’t rotate it though. Instead, I just used the device to rotate and move around the map. It’s was such an exciting experience. In games like The Machines and HoloGrid: Monster Battle AR I was so thrilled seeing some other guy moving the 3D objects inside my living room, but this one just blew me away, I was ecstatic.

This ARKit technology is just unreal, I mean, the things that you can do with it. I’ve spent an hour watching other players playing against each other. I could enter a building buy just moving my iPad really close to the action. I could see other players stalking in the corners and seeing other flanking them from behind. This is seriously an amazing AR experience, definitely different than anything I’ve experienced before.

Just keep in mind that Guns of Boom is not an augmented reality game. I am only talking about the Augmented Reality spectator mode. This mode was designed to enhance the eSport’s user experience. This means that once there is an important eSport event, viewers will have an option to watch it in augmented reality alongside the other viewing options. This is by far the most

This is by far the most immersive viewing experience to enjoy an eSport game like that. You can also see the players names, clan affiliation, their total kills and assists and their total score. There is also an icon on the right side that shows you which gun they are using.  At the top of your iPhone or iPad’s screen, you can see the match score, the remaining match time and how many spectators are watching.

The maps that I’ve seen are really well designed, beautiful and vivid. Thisdefeintely enhances the viewing experience, I just enjoyed watching an FPS game on those maps.

There is also an option to show and hide the UI.just in case you don’t want the UI to interfere with the viewing experience, it’s quite large so sometimes I just preferred to hide it and just enjoy the match. If it was an eSport event, I would probably leave it visible so I can follow the statistics of my favorite team players.

First time I actually get the chance to try that myself. This is an amazing idea and it works so well. I didn’t notice any lags or jittering. The only reason the map moved a bit is that I deployed it on my table, and the detection there is not stable at all, but on the floor, it was perfect, no issues whatsoever.
