HotStepper – A Really Cool Wayfinding ARKit App

Just came across HotStepper app. This ARKit app is so cool. Instead of just using a boring navigation app just use HotStepper and let a cool confident dude in an underwear show you the way.

I wish I could test it out but I have an iPad without cellular data and no iPhone so I couldn’t.  Anyways, it’s a really cool and original idea. Every day I wake up I come across some amazing ARKit apps and HotStepper is definitely one of those apps that deserve your attention.

Check this out, Speaking of innovation!

HotStepper is a street navigation app at its core. It uses the combination of GPS coordinates, the phone’s compass and vector in real-world space (the accelerometer) and mapping data in order to spawn and animate the character in the correct location. It’s amazing how much data need to be involved to generate such experience, but of course, ARKit-compatible iPhone devices have it all.

I’ve also read that HotStepper was animated in VR through VLO, an intuitive and collaborative VR animation tool.

It’s really amazing how precise it is based on the videos that I’ve watched and the character blends so well with the environment.

The app doesn’t feature this, but just imagine having the option to choose your own character/pet and be able to interact with other people’s pet when you meet them in the street—this could be a great social AR app if you ask me.

You can download this iOS app from iTunes here.
