Today I played with an app called Drums AR. I guess you already guessed correctly that this app is about playing drums, and you are completely right. I am not a drum musician, so I can’t really give you a very accurate review on it. That said, I can share some of my experience with it. It’s a paid app, so you probably want to know a bit more about before purchasing it, if at all.
When you launch Drums AR, the app will ask you to scan the floor so it can find a surface to put the drums on. This is an ARKit app, so it only works on ARKit-compatible iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 11 or later.
Once the app found a location, all you need to do is tap on the screen to deploy the drums’ set. There is a way to rotate the drums using the rotate button at the top. Once you finish and happy with the way it is positioned, press the rotate button again to lock the drums in place. I actually didn’t do it in my video, forgot about it, so this is why the drums moved a bit. Once they are locked in place, you won’t experience any jittering and the AR experience works just fine.
There isn’t any way to resize the drums though. I guess the developer just made a standard size drums. At least it looks like it.
Now that everything is in place you can start using your drums. I have no idea what I was doing, but I enjoy tapping on each drum and see how it sounds. I’m sure enthusiast drummers will do much better than me.
One thing that I did find missing is that there are no drumsticks animations. There are two drumsticks just sitting there on one of the drums and that’s it. It would be nice to see a nice animation attached to tap touch gesture.
This is it. There is no way to records something, just some plain drums to play with. I won’t be using it, but you might find it fun or even useful.
