AR Sports Basketball is an ARKit Augmented Reality game for iOS in which you shoot hoops anywhere you want. The game was developed exclusively for Apple ARKit. This game immoderately reminded me of another game I’ve already reviewed yesterday called AR Basketball.
Although both game plays in a very similar ways, each one has its pros and cons. AR Sports Basketball was able to nail the physics better than AR Basketball. In this game the ball always bounces out of the hoop and on surfaces, whether in the other game, the physics weren’t nailed right and the ball sometimes just stick to the floor like it was a Pétanque ball, not a basketball.
AR Sports Basketball has three games modes: Desk, Normal and H.O.R.S.E game mode (or just Horse). The first two modes are just different hoop sizes to fit different places. So if you are playing near a desk, choose the ‘Desk’ mode that will spawn a small basket, whether if you play outdoors or in a large space, choose ‘Normal’ mode, which will spawn a much larger basket.
The H.O.R.S.E mode is a really cool mode, because you can compete locally versus friends on the same device. You can choose up to 8 players. Each player shoot in his turn. The idea is to make a shot that the other player cannot duplicate. The first player shoot from a certain position and need to put the ball in. The second player needs to score from that same place if he or she wants to avoid getting a letter. In real life you can make really cool trick shots, but in this game it’s around being able to score from the same position as the previous player.
The HORSE game mode is a really fun game mode, because you can play with friends without needing a second device. This mode was added in Version 1.1, so if you don’t have it, make sure you installed the update so you can play it on your iPhone or iPad device.
It’s a fun AR game to play in the office while you have nothing else to do. I’m sure this game will find its way into offices where people just launch the game in ‘Desk mode’ and play it while on a break. Just think how cool it is, you don’t need to put any physical objects on the table, just use your phone and you have it there right in front of you, virtually speaking 🙂
The other modes is all about achieving the highest score possible. The game rewards you for shooting combos. If you fail to score a few times, the score resets. The good thing is that you don’t need to restart the game, just continue shooting straight up.
I would have liked to see more unique games modes and more statistics to be encourage to progress in the game, rather than just the local leaderboard. Wouldn’t it be great to also have a crowd spawning on flat surfaces and cheering you up and applause when you score?
Overall, I liked playing AR Sports Basketball. I think Triangle Factory, its developer, did a good job with it. I think that the focus on a social multiplayer gaming experience with the H.O.R.S.E game mode is what makes it stand out from the rest. Both AR Sports Basketball and AR-Basketball are free-to-play, to just download them both and see which one satisfy your appetite for some casual basketball shoot’up.
