Sayduck App Review

Sayduck is a home design augmented reality visualization app. This app is different than Housecraft. While Housecraft seemed to me like a casual fun home design app to play around with furniture and home decor, Sayduck is a business eCommerce-oriented app.

You can also visit their official website at Sayduck.com where you can also see the products in 3D, view the dimensions and save it to your favorites. However, you can directly shop through neither the site or the app. It seems that the entire business model is 3D product visualization and the both their Android and ARKit iOS app is the way to reach customers.

Red comfortable chair 3D model in augmented reality
The chair rendering looks so realistic, it’s hard to even tell it’s a 3D model-Amazing!

In the app, you have the option to press the Buy button, but this button just links to the product page of the specific brand. Sayduck has done a remarkable job and connected with over 150 different brands. The products are arranged in different categories: Beds, Benches & Stools, Bookcases, Chairs, Coatracks, Decoration,
Fireplaces, For children, Home office, Kitch & tab;e. Lighting, Lounges, Multimedia, Outdoor, Radiators, Rugs, Sofas, Storage, Tables, and Wellness.

This is by far the most impressive augmented-reality (AR) furniture and decor visualization app I had a chance to try out. I know there are more great home design Augmented Reality (AR) apps, but I haven’t had a chance to try them out just yet.

How to use Sayduck and Its Key Features?

Sayduck is a beautiful ARKit app with clean UI that leads to a great user experience straight from the start. When you launch Sayduck you can see the trending product. You can then either search for a product, browse the product catalog or view your favorite items.

When you press on a product you can view some information about, including description, model Id, and its dimensions. You also have two buttons, the first one is a “Buy” button, which as I said earlier, pressing this button leads you to the merchant page where you can purchase the product directly from the seller. The second button is a “Try out” button. This button is for visualizing the product in your real world.

Once you press that button, the app will ask you to locate surface. It might take it a few seconds, and once it locates a surface, it will show you the scanned 3D model of the item in its real-life size. You can’t resize the product, but you can move it and rotate it using swipe and pinch touch gestures, very easy and intuitive.

I had two problems with the augmented reality (AR) implementation.  First of all, you can move the product up in the Y-axis for some reason. For example, I wanted to see how a lamp looks in my room, but the app didn’t allow me to drag it up, just move or rotate it and it was by default placed slightly about the floor, not near my ceiling.

You do have the option to duplicate items, this doesn’t require the app to re-scan the surface. You can also add several items in the same area and arrange them as you see fit. However,  there are several things missing here and some things that are quite annoying.when you get back to the menu and choose another product, the app will ask you to re-scan the floor, which is very annoying. This means that you can’t place two different items

First of all, when you get back to the menu and choose another product, the app will ask you to rescan the floor, which is very annoying. If the surface is already scanned and this is an overlayed UI, why scan the surface all over again.

Second, Sayduck allows you to take a picture of your real place with the 3D models placed in it but there is no option to save a snapshot of the place. A snapshot is an option for the app to remember the location and the items in the scene and offer users the option to save it and load it later on. I’ve seen this feature before and I wonder why such a polished and advanced augmented reality app like Sayduck lack this feature.

I  also wish there was an option to aggregate the purchase so you won’t need to go to each seller and purchase it separately.

I also want to add that the rendering quality, the lighting, and the texture quality is very good. When you get really close to an object you can see that the texture isn’t in very high resolution, but usually, you won’t get to the item so close. So great job rendering the product to look very realistic. The soft shadows also look really nice.

Conclusion

I definitely need to try out more home decoration AR visualization apps. I did enjoy using the app.it worked really well.  That being said, Sayduck does lack some important features which I’m pretty positive they those will come in future updates. The product catalog is very generous and you can browse through thousands (over 5000 according to the app’s page) of different items and see if they fit nicely into different places in your house.

If you are looking for an app that will help you visualize how different furniture and home decoration products look in your space and have an easy way to purchase them-I recommend checking Saysuck iOS app.
