Grabbable game objects in mixed reality

Using Grabbable objects attached to the Magic Leap One Controller

When using the Magic Leap One 6DoF Control, you can attach virtual content to and interact with that virtual extension to interact with other virtual content.

In this article, I want to least some ideas for virtual extensions. In your app, you just need to attach the virtual object to the user’s Control and then use it for interaction and manipulation of virtual content.

In the Magic Kit Driver design gallery, you can see an animated gif showing a helicopter 3D model attached to the controller and moves with it as the user moves the controller. It’s the same idea, but without the being detached.

You can also see it in this Tweet by Andres Ornelas. This is his first Magic Leap One app. He attached three circles and a rectangular the controller looks like a gun. Even using one circle to cover the top area of the controller so it will look more natural and not just the part that is extending from the Control.

You can add some interesting mechanics where an object is held until its release and then either go back or resets its position back to the controller. For example, a frisbee or Ninja stars being thrown onto targets.

Those grabbable objects can be static objects like a sword or one that you can animate like an ancient flail or Nunchaks.

You can get many great ideas but just checking out the many VR games out there. In fact, there are many game idea that exists in virtual reality games that you can get inspiration from and bring them to mixed reality.

Well, I hope this can inspire some of you to create some great mixed reality games for the Magic Leap One with the 6DoF Controller. Good Luck!
